This is a picture drawn
according to the Scottish poet Sir Walter Scott’s poem “Helvellyn”
and the tragedy a long time ago.
.
One day in 1805,
a mountain climber fell to his death while hiking in England’s Lake District (Helvellyn is a mountain in the District).
His body went undiscovered for three months and all that time,
his faithful terrier stayed by his side.
.
Walter Scott’s poem mentioned about the scene
when the dog stayed and ward off the ravens and foxes that mighy have scavenged the remains.
Which is a really touching poem.
.
This is my first English poem written based on a painting.
Truely it is not as good as Scott’s,
but still there’s some of my inspiration.
Hope you enjoy it! 😀
Helvellyn”
Guarding – By Yi Chun
950 metres somewhere within the mountain
plus
90 something times the sun rises from the ridge
is
somehow equal to the story of
when
an unnamed wanderer and his faithful terrier being spotted in Helvellyn.
You sweared to conquest the highest mountain.
You indulged in embracing the farthest stars.
You tightened your cloak and smiled and closed yours eyes in the most fiecest wind.
No tears no sobs but I shield you from ravens and foxes.
No coats no ropes but I dress you against the frigid frosts.
I paw your body and wait and look into your eyes.
Lamenting the irreversible falling,
but now only
wishing you peace in heaven.
Let the stars and rocks to be your burial offerings.
Let the birds and winds to be your comforting requiem.
Let my heart and spirit to go with you.
Abandoned in
the prominemt Helvellyn
and
the progressive history,
leaving only
the passersby who mourn,
or withdrawn
from the artist’s canvas.
